The Redmond City Council members can be compared to a Board of Directors. They answer to the electorate the same as a Board of Directors answers to its stockholders. The Council members act as the policy makers, as required by council/manager form of government set forth in the Oregon Revised Statutes. The Council members provide the City Manager, the Chief Executive Officer, with policy-making guidelines and performance objectives. The City Manager's staff turns these guidelines and objectives into programs and services. The Council members meet at least twice each month to review and determine major policy decisions. The decisions they make directly affect City improvements and the quality of life for Redmond citizens. The Council members pride themselves on being accessible to Redmond residents. At each regular Council meeting, citizens are given the opportunity to express their views to the Council. The Council members have public telephone numbers and they are always interested in talking to the citizens they represent. Since Council members are elected city-wide, each member represents all Redmond citizens. |
