Jan Van Ek
About the Artist:
Jan Van Ek grew up in Medford, Oregon.
After graduation from Oregon State University, Jan moved to Denver and to perfect her technical skills and control the production of her work, she began working at a bronze casting foundry. After 22 years, Jan had established herself as a nationally recognized equine sculptor. In 2004, Jan returned to Oregon to build her dream studio in the Evans Valley.
About the Art:
Sirocco, which means Desert Wind, incorporates the elements most important to Jan in her work, power, freedom and majesty of the horse in the wild. This has been Jan’s inspiration for her sculptures and throughout her career.
Sirocco came to Redmond through the "Art Around the Clock" program. Sirocco was voted the communities favorite from the very first people's choice voting. Sirocco was purchased by Redmond Committee for Art in Public Places and became a prized addition to Redmond's permanent public art collection.
Sirocco was voted # 1 in the first round of Art Around the Clock "People's Choice" vote. The
